The best place to start your visit is Plaza de Fefiñáns, a grand square dominated by the impressive Pazo de Fefiñán's palace and the Church of San Benito. From there, take a slow stroll through the old town down Rúa Real and Rúa Novedades until you reach the atmospheric ruins of Santa Mariña Dozo, an ancient Gothic church set within one of Europe's most unique cemeteries.

To round off the day, you can't beat a visit to a local winery or the Wine Museum, followed by a meal at Taberna Do Trasno, a top choice for local food with a modern twist.

Baiona

Baiona is a must-visit if you're after a lively seaside vibe, rich history, and brilliant Atlantic views. Its star attraction is the Monterreal Castle, a massive walled fortress overlooking the sea that now houses a Parador hotel.

From the fortress, you can wander through the historic old town, pop up to the Virgen de la Roca viewpoint, or head down to the harbour to see the replica of La Pinta, one of Columbus's famous ships. For a fantastic end to the day, take a stroll along Paseo Pinzón to catch the sunset with the Cíes Islands on the horizon.

It gets popular, so it's best to get there early. As well as the main beach car park, local residents open up private fields in summer (leira-parkings) where you can park all day for cheap.
